Carnes, program director for Pockets Full of Sunshine, presented the nonprofit's programs and partnership opportunities with the airport.
Carnes said the nonprofit serves more than 130 adults with special needs across Hilton Head, Bluffton and surrounding areas and that programming includes vocational daily programs, social events, and a Raymaker apparel program that prints shirts for the organization and local partners. "We currently serve over a 130, adults with special needs and their families," Carnes said.
Carnes credited airport ambassador support and said that because of program participant Chase's interest in aviation, the organization arranged a visit so about 20 participants will spend a day at the airport fire station. Program participant Chase demonstrated how he operates the heat-press machine used to produce shirts, and Carnes described the shop producing hundreds of shirts annually for community partners.
The board thanked the nonprofit and expressed support for collaboration; no formal action or funding request was made.
