The Clay County Commission on Thursday adopted a resolution honoring the Honorable Shane T. Alexander for his 18 years of service as a circuit judge and for leading the county's treatment-court programs.
Commissioner Lawson introduced the resolution, citing Alexander's role in creating the county's adult substance-abuse, veterans, mental-health and DWI courts. Judge Alexander accepted the honor and credited many partner agencies; he told the commission the county has "918 treatment cases," of which "392 have graduated," and estimated "about a 77 percent graduation rate." He said Clay County's recidivism figures beat the state averages in the categories he cited.
The resolution notes Alexander's service as presiding judge of Division 1 of the Circuit Court of Clay County and praises his role in selecting participants, monitoring progress, and attending treatment-court graduations. Commissioners thanked the judge and several praised the personal, hands-on approach he described.
Judge Alexander urged commissioners to attend graduations and recognized the prosecutor's office, the sheriff's department, Beacon Mental Health and probation and parole as essential partners in achieving the results he described.
