Director Friedman presented highlights from policy committee work Thursday, flagging several forthcoming policy changes for board consideration. He said model policy language for disability nondiscrimination (for both employees and students) will be refined in response to recent statutory amendments.
Friedman also discussed a provision adopted by the legislature enabling veterans of the Korean or Vietnam conflicts to access high school diplomas if they had not previously earned one; he said the board has authority to broaden that approach to earlier conflicts as the board chooses. He raised a separate item about a new grooming statute and said staff would propose minor language changes to align district practice. Finally, Friedman noted a new statutory requirement addressing misuse of district technology "to download stuff that allows you to do some really awful things with respect to changing pictures." He did not provide final policy text but said trustees would see refined language in upcoming packets.
Trustees asked clarifying questions; Friedman said changes were largely technical updates to conform district policy to state law and that final recommended language would appear with the formal policy items.
