Board highlights student and staff achievements across district schools

The Apache Junction Unified School District Governing Board used the opening portion of its Sept. 17 meeting to recognize students, staff and volunteers from across the district. Awards included AP Scholar honors for graduates and current seniors, student-of-the-month recognitions at multiple elementary, junior high and high school campuses, and employee and volunteer-of-the-month awards.

Assistant Principal Robert Malone introduced AP Scholar recipients and current seniors, noting school pride and achievement: “My name is Robert Malone. I'm the assistant principal for academics at AJHS. Tonight, on behalf of our new principal, doctor Larson and AJHS staff, it's my pleasure to recognize students who have earned national recognition from the college board for their achievements on the advanced placement exams.” Across elementary schools, principals recognized students’ classroom habits, extracurricular interests and leadership, and Desert Vista honored volunteer Michelle Russo Gallagher and staff members including registrar Estella Montano and teacher Selena Vaez. The recognitions were accompanied by photos and a brief break before the business portion of the meeting.
