Don Platt, human resources director, summarized a package of personnel actions from the Personnel Committee that the board approved: a new ADA grievance policy providing a reporting and appeal path; a telework policy that permits remote work "when it makes business sense" and requires an annual telework agreement; and an annual leave donation policy for catastrophic situations. Platt also described revisions adding vaping to indoor smoking prohibitions and expanding drug and alcohol rules to include cannabis products when not lawfully reported.
On telework Platt said managers will be responsible for gauging remote employees' productivity and noted staff can review remote work on county computers when necessary. The board accepted the committee recommendation and adopted the new policies and revisions by voice vote. The county attorney reviewed the policies before adoption, staff said.
HR told the board it will distribute policies via email and printed copies for employees without access, and update job descriptions to state whether a role is essential and eligible for telework during emergencies.
