The board voted to authorize preliminary approval to proceed with the GageConnect app pending completion of contract negotiations. The app is intended to centralize civic notices, village/town event calendars and push notifications for residents and visitors; the committee recommended a locally owned build to retain intellectual property and avoid future third‑party fee changes.
Caleb Fioni, who presented the committee’s recommendation, said the preferred vendor approach would allow the county to own the app’s IP and contract for maintenance rather than depend on a third party that could later raise fees or shut down service. “The other option would let us build the app and have the rights to it,” Fioni said, describing the committee’s preference and noting local availability of vendors as a benefit. The board approved proceeding with contract negotiation on a 7‑0 vote and directed staff to finish price negotiations and return the final contract for approval.
