Grants Pass City Council approved city tourism-promotion grants for the fall 2026 cycle, directing $18,500 of lodging-tax surplus to five local events and organizations. The subcommittee recommended funding five applicants; heavy public testimony in favor of Crash & CMAC Productions prompted council to reallocate within the total pot and raise Crash & CMAC to the $5,000 cap by small reductions to other awards.
Crash & CMAC representatives and many local business owners and arts supporters told council the applicants have begun attracting out-of-area audiences and that modest marketing grants can amplify overnight stays and local spending. Crash & CMAC said recent events brought attendees from Northern California and across Oregon; one organizer noted a two-day event that attracted more than 1,400 attendees to a college bowl and a 200-capacity venue where roughly 25% of attendees were from more than 50 miles away. "With amplified dollars for our voice, it will work better," a local venue operator testified.
Council approved the recommended slate with a friendly amendment that boosted Crash & CMAC to $5,000 (the program cap for a single award) and slightly reduced four other awards so the total stayed within the fall-cycle allocation. Several councilors and committee members said the program should be revised for future cycles to require clearer past-performance metrics and post-event reporting on actual stays; staff said recipients must submit reimbursement documentation and post-grant reports.
Ending: The awards will be paid after recipients submit invoices and documentation showing eligible lodging-tax-eligible expenditures and the required post-event reporting. Staff will review the grant application form for future cycles to improve verifiability of expected out-of-area stays.
