The Prince George’s County Literacy Commission met Sept. 16 to hear updates from schools, libraries and community partners and to set a timeline for its report to the county council. Staff told the commission that the commission’s preliminary recommendations are due to the council by Sept. 30 and that final recommendations must be submitted by Dec. 15.
"So by September 30, we are to submit preliminary recommendations to the county council," the staff member said, emphasizing that those recommendations are not final and that commissioners should forward any additional proposals to be included in the synthesis. Chair Moss urged members to share proposals so they can be considered for the comprehensive report to the council.
The commission agreed to collect written notes and presentation materials from members who did not present during the Sept. 16 meeting, and staff said they will synthesize comments, presentations and public-facing activities to craft the preliminary package for the council. Commissioners were reminded that members’ initial terms expire Dec. 31 and that the commission will deliberate and vote on a final set of recommendations at a later meeting before the Dec. 15 deadline.
