Herndon Historic District Review Board staff said the town has received a certified local government grant from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources for fiscal year 2027 to support programming on maintenance and best practices for historic buildings.
“We received a certified local government grant from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources,” the staff member said, and said the period of performance will start with the state fiscal year in October. The staff member said one of the programs will be recorded and added to the board’s technical assistance library, which already includes talks on sustainable retrofits and rehabilitation tax credits.
The staff member invited board members to a certified local government training the town will host on Nov. 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Brady community center, noting the training is primarily for historic-review board members and staff and that roughly 33 people were registered with capacity up to about 50. Chair Blaker Glass congratulated staff on the grant and said the opportunity to host the training is significant for the board.
Why it matters: the grant funds programming intended to build local capacity for maintaining historic properties and will expand Herndon’s publicly available technical guidance for owners and practitioners.
