At a time-certain public hearing the board unanimously approved a resolution to add three projects to the Community Investment Tax (CIT) Phase 4 list: Fletcher district transportation improvements, sheriff infrastructure maintenance, and sheriff IT and communications equipment.
Kevin Brickey, who manages budget items for the county, described the resolution and noted the board had previously approved $24 million for infrastructure and public safety improvements associated with the Fletcher District development. "The resolution that you are being requested to adopt would add 3 projects to the approved CIT 4 list," Brickey said.
A public commenter, Tom Covert, said the proposed projects were necessary to support USF'area growth and that the university is a key community asset. The board moved and voted to approve the item with a seven'zero tally.
Related to the same initiative, the board later approved an interlocal agreement with the University of South Florida to implement the mobility and public-safety improvements in the Fletcher District.
